A Healthy, Caring Community in Christ, Reaching Out With The Gospel to Those Around Us

PRESIDENT’S REPORT – MARCH 2010

Our big fund-raiser for the year is coming up soon.  This is, of course, our Easter Egg Sale.  We will be making the eggs on Thursday, March 4 from 6:00 Pm until 9:00;  Friday, March 5, also from 6 – 9; and on Saturday, March 6, from 8:00 AM until project is completed. We will make them at Corbaley Hall, behind Mother of Sorrows Church in Centreville.  This is a joint project with the youth group from MOS.  We will be selling at least 700 eggs with a profit of approximately $2000.  Proceeds from this project will be used for a future performance by Youth International, sponsored by Galilee, for the community.  We are requesting a $1200 match from Thrivent.

Galilee members donated $210 for the Haiti Relief Thrivent match.  This project has been completed with Thrivent matching  the maximum $1,000,000 they pledged. Thanks to all who contributed.

From our income a couple of weeks ago, it’s obvious that many of you made up your pledge envelopes from the 2 weeks missed because of the snow event. Many thanks. It is important that we continue to do this!  While on the subject of the snow, we also appreciate the great effort put forth by those of you involved in clearing the parking lot. I was gratified and amazed at the condition of the parking area.

Our next Congregational Meeting is on Sunday, March 21st.  It is important that we have a good attendance. I think that we will have to revisit the discussion of the property sale (or perhaps the possibility of selling the Parsonage).

Several of our youth, chaperoned by Jackie, John and Ashley, attended Youth Quake, in Baltimore in January. Everyone had a great time and want to return next year.  Thanks to the chaperones for making this possible.

God’s blessings to all

Jim

Presidents Report – February, 2010

WOW! The snowfall we had on Saturday, Dec. 19 forced the cancellation of our worship service on Dec 20. This was the first cancellation in at least 19 years (the length of time that I’ve been a member). Unfortunately, it also cancelled our open house for that weekend. But, thanks to John for all the work that went into setting up the train garden. It was greatly enjoyed by all those who attended our Christmas Eve service.

POT PIE SALE

Shirley made and sold over 50 chicken pot pies. Thanks to her, and those of you who purchased them, we were able to raise the $640 that Thrivent matched for our parking lot repairs.

OUTREACH

Galilee provided a nice Christmas for an area local family with children. A free will donation raised $301 which was Matched by Thrivent.

COOKIE WALK

The Womens’ Guild Cookie Walk on December 5th raised 0ver $400 despite the bad weather. Thrivent matched $400. The proceeds, of course, go toward assistance for the Seminary student supported by the Women’s Guild.

CHRISTMAS DINNER

The Women’s Guild Christmas Dinner at Kentmorr on Dec 14th went very well with 21 attendees and good food and fellowship. The after dinner quiz was the easiest that Pastor Chuck ever came up with!

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING

At this meeting on December 13th, the congregation decided to limit our Lenten services to Ash Wednesday, with a Soup and Sandwich Dinner; to Maundy Thursday with a sample Seder meal and Communion; and to Good Friday. We had taken a poll on a possible change of our worship service time to 10:00. The congregation voted to have the services remain at 9:00.

Please remember to make up your pledge if you happen to miss a Sunday!

God’s blessings to you all.

Jim
